Ghosts of War (2020)
“Ghosts of War” is a 2020 supernatural horror film directed by Eric Bress. The story is set during World War II and follows five American soldiers who are assigned to hold a French chateau previously occupied by the Nazi high command. As they settle into the mansion, they soon realize it is haunted by a malevolent supernatural force.
The soldiers, Chris (Brenton Thwaites), Eugene (Skylar Astin), Tappert (Kyle Gallner), Kirk (Theo Rossi), and Butchie (Alan Ritchson), initially enjoy the luxuries of the mansion. However, they begin experiencing disturbing paranormal events and uncover the horrifying history of the chateau. The family who once lived there was brutally murdered by the Nazis, and their vengeful spirits now haunt the house.
As the soldiers delve deeper into the mystery, they discover that their reality might not be what it seems. The narrative takes a dramatic twist, revealing that the events are part of a simulated reality used to help soldiers cope with their traumatic war experiences. The line between reality and illusion blurs, and the soldiers must confront their deepest fears and the true nature of their existence.
“Ghosts of War” combines war drama with psychological horror, exploring themes of trauma, guilt, and the haunting remnants of violence. The film’s eerie atmosphere, unexpected plot twists, and intense performances create a chilling and thought-provoking experience.
