Danger Close (2019)
“Danger Close” is a 2019 Australian war film directed by Kriv Stenders. The movie is based on the true story of the Battle of Long Tan, which took place on August 18, 1966, during the Vietnam War.
The film focuses on a company of inexperienced Australian and New Zealand soldiers who find themselves heavily outnumbered and fighting for their lives in the dense Vietnamese jungle. The soldiers, part of Delta Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), are led by Major Harry Smith (played by Travis Fimmel).
As the soldiers set out on what seems like a routine patrol, they are suddenly ambushed by a large force of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops. Outnumbered approximately 20 to 1, the men of Delta Company must rely on their training, bravery, and each other to survive. The battle intensifies as they await reinforcements and artillery support, facing insurmountable odds and continuous enemy attacks.
The film portrays the camaraderie, sacrifice, and heroism of the soldiers as they endure relentless enemy fire and severe weather conditions. Despite the overwhelming odds, the soldiers manage to hold their ground until reinforcements arrive, turning the tide of the battle.
